Hello Shane Hurlbut and fam
I am Archana Ghangrekar, I am a DP based out of Mumbai, mostly working in long format / narrative fiction.
I want to venture into the world of commercials focusing on slice of life theme as that’s the majority of my work so far.
I have made a commercials showreel and I would love if you can take a look. I am looking for suggestions to make it more appealing, crisper.

Question about wet downs!
Hey everyone! This might be a silly question - what is the best method to watering down pavement on night shoots? I’ve never done this technique before, but I do know it’s a classic move to see nice reflections on the ground & bring up the levels. Is there a special machine that can be rented? Is there a best practice DIY solution for this? Thank you in advance!

Has anyone used Ronin 2 + Mimic setup for car shots, with the Ronin rigged on the car body using pipe rigs. How effecient is that and what are the limitations around it ?

Is or has anyone thought about re-lamping their Arri or Mole Richardson Fresnels? Most of my lights are LED but I do have some 650's 300's and 1000's that I'd like to not completely abandon. Just curious...

I have a gig in San Diego August 6 - 8th. I'm looking for a place to stay. Does anyone have an extra couch or room I could stay in? Or reccomendations for cheap places to stay?

Hi Shane.  I have been searching Filmmakers Academy for information on the CRLS system but couldn't find much info.  From your experience, what are the primary advantages of using CRLS over conventional lighting setups?  I understand that it has many advantages when shooting in small spaces.  Are there any particular challenges or limitations you’ve encountered while using CRLS, and how do you overcome them?  How does CRLS impact the quality of light, especially in terms of softness, spread, and intensity? Are there specific considerations or adjustments that a cinematographer should be aware of when transitioning to CRLS from traditional lighting systems?

Many thanks,
Patrick

There is a great episode on the Finding Mastery podcast with Dr. Michael Gervais (a performance psychologist) about The Art of Resilience with dancer Misty Copeland. My favorite part of this episode is where Dr. Gervais distinguishes about "above the line coaches" where you leave feeling seen and capable and "below the line coaches" where you leave their presence feeling small and less than. Timecode: 1:08:50 Misty discusses how she protects herself with her personal shield to block negativity from directly impacting her.  Her coach Susan Jaffe said "Don't let other peoples words define you. You have the power to sift through the things that they are saying and take the jewels or throw away the words they are saying."  Misty can sift through the negativity and still remain open enought to learn something. She has a personal filter that works by building a support network around her- the people that understand her pain points, scar tissues etc. Here is the full episode  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/finding-mastery-with-dr-michael-gervais/id1025326955?i=1000661747980

Hello Shane Hurlbut & Filmmakers Academy I have some questions regarding shooting a little sci-fi shortfilm in a led volume.

- it’s the first time for me in a led volume. Any good advice? Any not-to-do‘s?
- we are building a little set of a helicopter and I wanna use some vibrations in-camera. What’s the poor man’s way? Some kind of gadget which virbrates?
- shooting for the first time on the Sony Venice. Maybe do you guys have an accurate -1 stop lut?
Would really appreciate it!

Thank you!
Micky
